2022 Colour of the Year - It’s Very Peri!

Here’s what you need to know about how to incorporate

periwinkle blue into your home!

Anticipating the colour of the year announcement from Pantone is an annual fall tradition in the world of design and fashion.

Reactions to each year’s colour choice are often mixed, (and I’ll admit some years I have not been a big fan) but this year I couldn’t be happier, because Pantone’s colour of the year for 2022 is Very Peri!

What’s not to love about periwinkle blue?? Beautiful for guest bed rooms (it’s the colour I used on the walls in my own guest bedroom that I painted back in 2009!), bathrooms, and as an accent colour anywhere in the home!

This particular “Very Peri” shade of periwinkle is a touch darker and more on the purple side than I would normally use (I prefer a light periwinkle that leans more towards the blue side of the spectrum) but it’s a beautiful shade nonetheless!

Something a bit different this year is that Pantone added Very Peri as a brand new colour to their colour collection, rather than selecting a colour that already existed in their extensive catalogue.

Here’s some tips to get you started!

Colour Pairings:

For a high contrast look, periwinkle blue pairs beautifully well with yellow and gold
Periwinkle also works well together with other mid-tone bright colours, such as a combination of leafy green, sunshine yellow, bubble gum pink, and creamsicle orange. This would work beautifully in a fun and happy living room or a kid’s space
To create a neutral look for a more calm and relaxing space such as a bedroom, pair it with brown, cream, white and beige
In a bathroom or powder room, try pairing Very Peri accessories with with crisp white and other shades of blue

Accessorizing the home with Very Peri - add a pop of colour with throw pillows or a vase

Very Peri Home Accessories:

Towels in the bathroom
Throw pillows in the living room
Throw blanket or duvet cover in the bedroom
A new hat or scarf
Dishes in the kitchen
Artwork in the dining room
A vase or artificial florals

Create a calm and neutral bedroom:

Paint the walls a light shade of periwinkle blue
Pair with: neutral bedding (white or cream), natural medium brown wood furniture, white or cream coloured lamps, and a mix of beige, brown and cream accessories in the room, and a few metallic elements for a hint of shine (i.e. the lamp bases or a mirror on the wall)

Use as an accent colour in A bathroom:

Very Peri would work beautifully as a punch of colour in a black & white or all white bathroom! Simply swap out your white bath towels and bath rugs for a new set in periwinkle blue and you’re done!

Hopefully this has sparked some ideas for your own space!

It’s true that painting a wall in the latest colour of the year might be a bigger commitment than you are ready to tackle this season.

However, a quick home refresh with Very Peri in 2022 can be as simple as a few accessories, linens or bedding in a room of your choice!
